Possible Causes

Failed heating element, Tripped thermal cut-out (thermal fuse), Loose heater wiring, Faulty heater relay on control board

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Disconnect power. Heating components can remain hot after use; allow at least 30 minutes to cool.

  • Check airflow first: Remove and clean the lint filter. Inspect the exhaust duct (vented models) or condenser unit (condenser/heat pump models) for heavy lint buildup. Restricted airflow can cause overheating and E05.
  • Access the heater assembly: On most Amica vented dryers, the heater is behind the rear panel. On condenser/heat pump models, it may be behind a side or front panel. Remove the appropriate panel to expose the heater housing.
  • Inspect thermal cut-out and thermostats: Locate the thermal fuse/thermal cut-out and thermostats mounted on the heater housing. Check for signs of burning or discoloration. Test continuity with a multimeter; any open device must be replaced.
  • Test the heating element: Disconnect the heater terminals and measure resistance across the element. A typical reading is between 20–60 Ω. Infinite resistance indicates a broken element.
  • Check wiring and connectors: Ensure all spade connectors are tight and free of heat damage. Reseat connectors to the heater and thermostats.
  • Reassemble and test: Replace any failed components with Amica-compatible parts. Refit panels, restore power, and run a timed heat cycle. If E05 persists and the heater circuit tests good, the control board heater relay or triac may be faulty and should be checked by a technician.
