Possible Causes
Broken drive belt, Seized drum rear bearing, Jammed drum due to foreign object, Failed motor start capacitor (if equipped)
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the dryer before opening the cabinet.
A humming motor with no drum movement usually indicates a mechanical jam or broken belt.
- Try rotating the drum by hand: With the door open, attempt to spin the drum. If it spins freely and easily, the belt may be broken. If it is very stiff or stuck, the drum bearing or felt seals may be seized or obstructed.
- Inspect the belt: Remove the top panel and front panel to access the drum. Check if the belt is still around the drum and motor pulley. Replace if broken or badly worn.
- Check for obstructions: Look for clothing or objects caught between the drum and front panel or rear bulkhead. Remove any obstructions.
- Inspect rear drum bearing and front glides/felt: If the drum is difficult to turn, the bearing or glides may be worn out. Replace the worn components and lubricate the bearing if specified by the manufacturer.
- Test motor capacitor (if present): A weak capacitor can prevent the motor from starting under load. Test with a capacitance meter and replace if out of spec.
