Possible Causes
Open heating element, Blown thermal fuse on heater housing, Faulty cycling thermostat, Loose or burned heater wiring connector
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the dryer and verify it is completely de-energized before testing the heater circuit.
E05 indicates the control cannot achieve or detect proper heating.
- Confirm lack of heat: Run a short cycle on high heat and feel for warm air at the drum or vent. If completely cold, proceed with heater checks.
- Access the heater assembly: Remove the rear panel (vented) or side/back panels (condenser/heat pump) to expose the heater housing.
- Test the heating element: Disconnect the element terminals and measure resistance with a multimeter. A typical element will show a finite resistance (e.g., 20–60 Ω). If open (infinite), replace the heater assembly.
- Check thermal fuse and thermostats: Locate the thermal fuse and cycling thermostat on the heater housing or exhaust duct. Test for continuity. Replace any open devices and investigate the cause of overheating (blocked airflow).
- Inspect wiring: Look for burned spade connectors or discolored wires at the heater and thermostats. Repair or replace damaged wiring and ensure tight connections.
- Reassemble and test: After replacing faulty parts, reassemble the dryer, restore power, and run a timed heat cycle. If E05 persists with a good heater circuit, the main control board or NTC sensor may be at fault and should be checked by a technician.
