Possible Causes
Dry or seized drum support rollers, Worn idler pulley bearing, Drum rubbing on front felt seal, Misaligned drum
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the dryer. Sharp edges inside the cabinet can cause injury; wear gloves.
Steps:
- 1. Isolate noise: Run the dryer briefly (door closed) to confirm the noise occurs only when the drum turns. Stop and unplug.
- 2. Access drum supports: Remove the top and front panels to expose the drum. Carefully lift the drum out (note belt routing).
- 3. Inspect rollers and idler: Spin each drum support roller and the idler pulley by hand. Replace any that are noisy, stiff, or wobbling.
- 4. Check front felt seal: Inspect the felt seal on the front bulkhead. If worn through or detached, replace it to prevent metal-on-metal contact.
- 5. Reassemble: Refit the drum and belt, ensuring correct alignment.
