Poor Drying Performance / Airflow Restriction
Dryer runs but clothes take too long to dry
Advertisements
Possible Causes
Clogged lint filter, Restricted exhaust vent, Long or convoluted vent run, Weak heating due to failing element or gas burner
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the dryer before disconnecting the vent hose.
- Clean lint filter: Remove and clean the lint filter before every load. Wash with warm water and detergent if coated with residue.
- Inspect and clean venting: Disconnect the vent hose from the dryer and wall. Use a vent brush and vacuum to remove lint from the hose and wall duct. Check the exterior vent hood for obstructions.
- Test with vent disconnected: Run a timed dry cycle with the vent hose temporarily disconnected (exhausting into a safe area) to see if drying improves. If it does, the vent system is restricted.
- Check load size and settings: Avoid overloading the drum and ensure you are using the correct heat setting for the fabric.
- Check heating system: If airflow is good but drying is still poor, test the heating element or gas burner components as described in heating system troubleshooting.
