Possible Causes
Failed exhaust thermistor, Shorted thermistor wiring harness, Lint blockage at exhaust outlet, Faulty main control board temperature circuit
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Disconnect power before servicing. Internal metal parts may be hot.
- Clean lint filter and vent: Remove and clean the lint filter. Inspect and clean the exhaust duct and exterior vent hood to ensure proper airflow.
- Access exhaust thermistor: Remove the rear panel. The exhaust thermistor on Café dryers is typically mounted on or near the blower housing or exhaust duct.
- Inspect wiring: Check the thermistor connector and harness for damage, corrosion, or loose fit. Reseat the connector.
- Test thermistor: Disconnect the thermistor and measure its resistance at room temperature. Compare to Café service specifications (commonly around 10–50 kΩ at 77°F/25°C). If it reads open, shorted, or far out of range, replace the thermistor.
- Check for lint buildup: Clean around the thermistor and exhaust duct to ensure accurate temperature sensing.
- Control board consideration: If a known-good thermistor and wiring are present but E04 persists, the main control board may have a failed sensor input and should be evaluated by a professional.
