Possible Causes
Broken drive belt, Belt slipped off motor pulley, Worn idler pulley, Failed motor start capacitor (on capacitor-start motors)
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the dryer before removing the top or side panels.
- Check drum rotation by hand: Open the door and try to rotate the drum. If it spins freely but does not turn during operation, suspect the belt or motor start circuit.
- Inspect the drive belt: Remove the top or rear panel to view the belt. Replace if broken, heavily worn, or stretched.
- Check belt routing and idler: Ensure the belt is correctly routed around the drum, motor pulley, and idler pulley. Spin the idler pulley to check for smooth operation; replace if noisy or seized.
- Test start capacitor (if fitted): Locate the capacitor near the motor. Discharge it safely, then measure capacitance with a meter. Replace if out of tolerance or bulging.
