Possible Causes
Failed drive motor, Worn motor start capacitor (on some models), Jammed drum or seized drum bearings, Faulty motor triac or relay on main control PCB
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Disconnect the dryer from mains power before removing the top, side, or rear panels.
- Check drum movement: With the dryer unplugged, open the door and try to rotate the drum by hand. It should turn smoothly with moderate resistance. If it is very stiff or seized, inspect the drum bearings, rear support, and felt seals for obstruction or failure.
- Inspect the drive belt: Remove the top or rear panel to view the belt. Ensure it is correctly seated on the motor pulley and drum, and not broken or badly frayed.
- Check for obstructions: Look for foreign objects (coins, screws, clothing) trapped between the drum and cabinet that could jam rotation.
- Test the motor and capacitor: If the drum turns freely but the motor hums or fails to start, test the motor windings for continuity and the start capacitor (if fitted) for correct capacitance. Replace any faulty component with a Caple-compatible part.
- Inspect motor wiring and PCB: Check the motor connector and harness for burns or loose pins. If the motor and capacitor are good, the motor control triac or relay on the main PCB may be defective, requiring PCB replacement.
