Possible Causes

Worn drum drive belt, Seized or worn drum support rollers, Faulty drive motor, Blocked blower wheel causing motor overload

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Disconnect power before removing any panels. Sharp metal edges inside the cabinet can cause injury.

  • Check drum rotation by hand: With the dryer unplugged and door open, try to rotate the drum manually. It should turn smoothly with moderate resistance. If it is very stiff or jammed, suspect rollers or foreign objects.
  • Inspect drive belt: Remove the top cover and front panel to access the drum. Check if the belt is broken, frayed, or off the motor pulley or idler. Replace the De Dietrich drum drive belt if damaged or loose.
  • Examine drum rollers and idler pulley: Spin each roller and the idler pulley by hand. They should rotate freely without grinding noise. Replace worn drum support rollers or idler pulley if stiff or noisy.
  • Check blower wheel: Access the blower housing near the motor. Remove lint, socks, or debris that may jam the blower wheel and overload the motor.
  • Test motor: If the belt and rollers are fine but the motor hums and trips, the drive motor may be failing. Motor replacement is moderately complex and may be best handled by a technician.
