Possible Causes

Clogged lint filter, Blocked exhaust duct or condenser, Failed cycling thermostat, Faulty high-limit thermostat or thermal cut-out

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Unplug the dryer and allow it to cool completely before inspection. Overheated components can cause burns.

  • Clean lint filter: Remove the lint filter and clean it thoroughly with warm water and mild detergent if it is coated with fabric softener residue. Dry completely before reinstalling.
  • Check exhaust airflow: For vented models, disconnect the exhaust hose and check for lint buildup or kinks. Clean the hose and wall vent. For condenser/heat pump models, clean the condenser unit and air channels as per the user manual.
  • Inspect air intake grilles: Ensure that front and rear air inlets are not blocked by dust, lint, or objects.
  • Test thermostats: Access the heater housing and locate the cycling thermostat and high-limit thermostat / thermal cut-out. Use a multimeter to check continuity at room temperature. Replace any thermostat that is open when it should be closed.
  • Resettable thermal cut-out: Some De Dietrich models use a resettable thermal cut-out with a small button. If present, press the reset button after cleaning airflow paths. If it trips again, investigate airflow and heater issues further.
