Possible Causes
Open or shorted drum temperature NTC sensor, Loose NTC wiring harness, Corroded NTC connector at control board, Faulty main control board analog input
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the dryer before removing panels or disconnecting sensors.
- Locate the NTC sensor: On many De Dietrich dryers, the main drum temperature NTC is mounted on the front bulkhead or on the air duct near the lint filter. Some models have additional NTCs on the heater housing or condenser.
- Inspect wiring: Check the NTC harness for pinched, broken, or burnt wires. Ensure the connector is fully seated at both the sensor and the control board.
- Measure NTC resistance: Disconnect the sensor and measure its resistance at room temperature. Typical values are between 5–20 kΩ depending on model (refer to service documentation). If the reading is open, shorted, or far from specification, replace the drum temperature NTC sensor.
- Check for moisture or corrosion: In condenser and heat pump models, moisture can affect sensor connectors. Clean and dry connectors and apply a small amount of contact cleaner if needed.
- Control board diagnosis: If the NTC and wiring are correct, the fault may lie in the main PCB's sensor input circuit. This requires advanced diagnosis and usually replacement of the main control board by a professional.
