Possible Causes
Blocked exhaust duct, Crushed or kinked vent hose, Obstructed wall vent flap, Faulty exhaust temperature sensor
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off power before moving the dryer or disconnecting the vent hose. Wear a dust mask if sensitive to lint.
- Inspect vent hose: Pull the dryer away from the wall and check the exhaust hose for kinks, crushing, or disconnection. Replace damaged vent hose with a smooth-walled duct if possible.
- Clean ducting: Disconnect the hose from both the dryer and wall. Use a vent brush or vacuum to remove lint from the entire length of ducting and the outside vent hood.
- Check outside flap: Ensure the exterior vent flap opens freely and is not blocked by nests, debris, or paint.
- Exhaust sensor: Some De Dietrich vented dryers use an exhaust NTC sensor. Access the exhaust duct and test the sensor's resistance. Replace the exhaust temperature sensor if out of range.
- Test operation: Reconnect everything securely and run a test cycle. If E12 recurs with a clean vent, further diagnosis of sensors and control board is needed.
