Possible Causes
Failed exhaust NTC sensor, Failed drum inlet NTC sensor, Damaged sensor wiring harness, Faulty main control PCB sensor input
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the dryer and allow it to cool fully before working near the heater or exhaust duct.
- Locate the NTC sensor: On most Essentials dryers, the NTC temperature sensor is mounted on the exhaust duct or heater housing. It is a small probe or disc with two wires.
- Inspect wiring: Check the sensor connector and wiring harness for loose plugs, corrosion, or damaged insulation. Reseat the connector firmly.
- Test the sensor: Disconnect the sensor and measure its resistance at room temperature. Typical NTC sensors read between 5–50 kΩ at 20–25°C (exact value varies by model). A reading of 0 Ω (short) or infinite (open) indicates a bad sensor.
- Replace the sensor: If the NTC is out of range or open/shorted, replace it with the correct Essentials exhaust NTC sensor specified for your model.
- Check control board if needed: If a known-good sensor still triggers E05, the sensor input circuit on the main control PCB may be defective and the board may need replacement.
