Possible Causes

Clogged lint filter, Blocked exhaust duct or wall vent, Failed cycling thermostat, Tripped high-limit thermostat or thermal cut-out

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Disconnect power before working on the dryer. Surfaces and internal parts may be hot; allow the unit to cool.

  • Clean lint filter: Remove the lint filter from the door opening and clean it thoroughly with warm water and mild detergent if coated with fabric softener residue. Dry completely before reinstalling.
  • Inspect exhaust duct: Pull the dryer away from the wall. Disconnect the exhaust hose from the dryer and wall. Remove lint buildup using a vacuum and a vent brush. Ensure the outside vent flap opens freely.
  • Check airflow: Run the dryer briefly (empty, on air-only if available) with the hose disconnected. Strong airflow at the outlet indicates the blower is working; weak airflow suggests an internal blockage in the lint housing or blower wheel.
  • Test thermostats: With the rear panel removed, locate the cycling thermostat and high-limit thermostat on the heater housing. Test for continuity with a multimeter. A high-limit thermostat that is open and does not reset must be replaced.
  • After clearing blockages: Reassemble, restore power, and run a test cycle. If E02 persists with good airflow and new thermostats, the NTC sensor or control board may be misreading temperature and should be checked by a technician.
