Possible Causes
Failed drive motor, Defective motor start capacitor, Jammed blower wheel or drum, Faulty motor relay on PCB
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the dryer. Sharp edges inside the cabinet can cause injury; wear cut-resistant gloves.
- Check for drum obstruction: Open the door and try to rotate the drum by hand. It should turn smoothly with moderate resistance. If it is seized or very stiff, inspect for foreign objects between drum and cabinet or a seized drum roller.
- Listen for motor hum: With the cabinet closed, briefly plug in and attempt to start the dryer. If you hear a hum but no rotation, unplug immediately; this often indicates a bad start capacitor or jammed motor.
- Access motor and capacitor: Remove the rear or side panel (depending on model) to reach the motor and capacitor. Inspect the belt, blower wheel, and motor pulley for obstructions.
- Test capacitor: Discharge the capacitor safely by bridging its terminals with a resistor. Remove it and test with a capacitance meter; replace if out of tolerance or physically swollen.
- Check motor windings: Measure resistance across the motor terminals according to the wiring diagram. Open windings or short to ground indicate a failed motor.
- If relay/PCB suspected: Inspect the control board for a burned motor relay. Replacement of the PCB is usually required if the relay is damaged.
