Possible Causes
Faulty motor tachometer sensor, Damaged tachometer wiring, Defective motor, Faulty speed sensing circuit on PCB
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the dryer. Moving parts can cause injury; ensure the drum cannot rotate while working.
- Access motor assembly: Remove the rear or side panel to reach the drive motor. Locate the tachometer sensor on the motor (often a small module at the motor shaft end).
- Inspect wiring: Check the tachometer connector and wiring harness for damage or loose connections. Reseat the connector.
- Test tachometer: With the motor disconnected, measure resistance across the tachometer terminals (if specified in the service manual). An open circuit indicates a failed sensor.
- Check motor condition: Spin the motor shaft by hand; it should turn smoothly. Any grinding or binding suggests motor replacement.
- PCB diagnosis: If the tachometer and wiring are good, the main PCB speed sensing circuit may be defective and require replacement.
