Possible Causes

Stuck control panel button, Moisture ingress into control panel, Damaged keypad membrane, Shorted UI PCB traces

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Disconnect power before removing the control panel. Avoid using excessive force on buttons.

  • Check for stuck buttons: Press each button individually and ensure it returns freely. If a button feels stuck, gently work it free or remove debris around it.
  • Dry moisture: If the panel has been exposed to steam or liquid, remove the control panel and allow it to dry completely in a warm, dry place for 24 hours.
  • Inspect keypad membrane: Look for cracks, warping, or signs of delamination. Replace the membrane or entire UI panel if damaged.
  • Clean contacts: For mechanical switches, use contact cleaner on the switch terminals (with power disconnected).
  • Reassemble and test: After cleaning and drying, reconnect and test. Persistent E16 usually indicates the need for a new UI board.
