Possible Causes
Lint buildup near heater or motor, Foreign object contacting heater, Overheating wiring or terminal block, Failing motor
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Immediately stop the dryer, unplug it, and do not use it again until the cause is identified. Fire risk is present.
- 1. Inspect lint buildup: Remove the rear and/or front panels and inspect around the heater housing, motor, and wiring for heavy lint accumulation. Vacuum thoroughly.
- 2. Check for foreign objects: Look for plastic items, clothing tags, or other debris near the heater or exhaust duct that may be melting. Remove them.
- 3. Inspect wiring: Examine the power cord, terminal block, and internal wiring for signs of overheating, melted insulation, or burn marks. Replace damaged wiring and components.
- 4. Motor inspection: If the smell seems to come from the motor and is accompanied by unusual noise or failure to start, the motor may be failing and should be replaced.
- 5. Test carefully: After cleaning and repairs, run the dryer under supervision. If any burning smell returns, disconnect power and contact a technician.
