Possible Causes

Open or shorted exhaust thermistor, Damaged thermistor wiring harness, Failed main control module (power control board), Loose thermistor connector at control board

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Unplug the dryer or switch off the circuit breaker before removing any panels. Allow the dryer to cool completely.

  • 1. Power reset: Disconnect power for 5 minutes, then restore power and try to start a cycle. If E1 returns, continue.
  • 2. Access the thermistor: Remove the top panel or rear panel (model dependent). Locate the exhaust thermistor on or near the exhaust duct or heater housing—typically a small sensor with two wires.
  • 3. Inspect wiring: Check the thermistor plug and harness for loose connections, corrosion, or damage. Reseat the connector firmly.
  • 4. Test the thermistor: With the dryer unplugged, disconnect the thermistor and measure resistance with a multimeter. At room temperature, Fisher & Paykel thermistors are typically in the 10–50 kΩ range (check your service manual). If reading is open (OL) or near 0 Ω, the sensor is faulty.
  • 5. Replace if defective: If the thermistor is out of spec or physically damaged, replace it with a Fisher & Paykel-compatible exhaust thermistor. Reassemble and test.
  • 6. Control board check: If a known-good thermistor and wiring are OK but E1 persists, the main control module may be faulty and should be tested or replaced by a qualified technician.
