Possible Causes
Failed motor tachometer sensor, Damaged motor harness, Faulty main control speed sensing circuit, Motor not reaching correct speed due to mechanical drag
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Disconnect power before accessing the motor or internal components.
- 1. Check for mechanical drag: Rotate the drum by hand to ensure it turns smoothly. If stiff or noisy, inspect rollers, idler pulley, and belt.
- 2. Access motor: Remove front or rear panel to expose the drive motor. Inspect the motor harness and tachometer connector (often a small multi-wire plug at the motor end).
- 3. Inspect wiring: Look for chafed, pinched, or broken wires between the motor and main control. Repair or replace as needed.
- 4. Test motor/tach: Using the service manual, test the tachometer output or motor windings with a multimeter. A failed tach sensor typically requires motor replacement.
- 5. Replace motor: If the motor or tach sensor is defective, replace the drive motor assembly with a Fisher & Paykel-compatible unit.
- 6. Control board: If a known-good motor and wiring are present but E17 persists, the main control's speed sensing circuit may be faulty and require replacement.
