Possible Causes
Open heater element, Burned heater terminals, Faulty heater relay on main control board, Broken wiring in heater circuit
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Disconnect power at the wall or breaker. Verify no voltage is present before testing.
- 1. Confirm no heat: Run a short cycle on a heat setting and check for warmth at the exhaust. If completely cold, proceed.
- 2. Access heater assembly: Remove rear or side panel to locate the heater housing. Inspect wiring and terminals for burns or loose connections.
- 3. Test heater element: Disconnect the heater wires and measure resistance across the element with a multimeter. A typical reading is 8–30 Ω depending on model. An open circuit (OL) indicates a failed element.
- 4. Inspect wiring: Check the harness from the heater to the main control for breaks, burns, or loose connectors. Repair or replace damaged wiring.
- 5. Replace heater: If the element is open or physically damaged, replace the heater assembly with a Fisher & Paykel-compatible heater unit.
- 6. Control board check: If the heater and wiring test good, the heater relay on the main control may be faulty. This typically requires board replacement by a technician.
- 7. Reassemble and test: Refit panels, restore power, and run a timed dry cycle to confirm proper heating and that E4 is cleared.
