Dryer stops and displays E5, may beep repeatedly, drum may or may not be turning

Safety first: Unplug the dryer. Moving parts and sharp edges are present inside the cabinet.

• 1. Allow motor to cool: If the dryer has been running for a long time, let it cool for 30–60 minutes, then try again. If E5 returns quickly, continue.
• 2. Check drum movement: With the dryer off, open the door and manually rotate the drum. It should turn smoothly with moderate resistance. If stiff or noisy, inspect rollers, idler pulley, and belt.
• 3. Access motor and blower: Remove front or rear panel to access the drive motor and blower wheel. Check for lint buildup, foreign objects, or obstructions in the blower housing.
• 4. Inspect belt and pulleys: Ensure the drive belt is correctly routed and not excessively tight. Spin the idler pulley and drum rollers by hand; they should rotate freely without grinding.
• 5. Test motor: With power disconnected, check motor windings for continuity per service manual specs. A motor that hums but will not start, or trips overload repeatedly, is likely failing.
• 6. Replace faulty components: Replace seized rollers, idler pulley, or the drive motor as needed with Fisher & Paykel-compatible parts.
• 7. Reassemble and test: Reassemble cabinet, restore power, and run a test cycle with no load to verify normal operation and that E5 does not reappear.
