Possible Causes
Dirty or coated moisture sensor bars, Broken or disconnected moisture sensor wiring, Failed moisture sensor assembly, Faulty main control moisture sensing circuit
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Disconnect power before accessing internal wiring. Moisture sensors are usually accessible from inside the drum.
- 1. Locate moisture sensors: Inside the drum, near the lint filter or front bulkhead, locate the two metal sensor bars used for auto-dry cycles.
- 2. Clean sensor bars: Using a soft cloth and a small amount of rubbing alcohol, thoroughly clean the sensor bars to remove fabric softener residue and lint. Do not use abrasive pads.
- 3. Inspect from rear/front: Remove the front panel or lower access panel to view the back of the sensor bars. Check the wiring harness and connectors for damage or disconnection.
- 4. Test continuity: With the dryer unplugged, disconnect the sensor harness and test continuity across each bar to its corresponding wire. Repair or replace any open or damaged connections.
- 5. Replace sensor assembly: If the bars are damaged or the assembly is cracked, replace the moisture sensor assembly with a Fisher & Paykel-compatible part.
- 6. Control board diagnosis: If wiring and sensors are good but E8 persists, the main control board's sensing circuit may be faulty and require replacement by a technician.
