Possible Causes
Open or shorted NTC sensor, Damaged sensor wiring harness, Corroded sensor connector, Faulty main control board input
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the dryer before accessing internal components.
- Locate the NTC sensor: On many Gaggenau dryers, an NTC is mounted on the exhaust duct or heater housing, and sometimes on the front bulkhead near the drum.
- Inspect wiring: Check the sensor connector and harness for damage, pinched wires, or corrosion. Clean contacts and reseat the plug.
- Measure sensor resistance: Disconnect the NTC and measure resistance at room temperature. Compare to Gaggenau specifications (commonly in the tens of kΩ range). A reading of 0 Ω (short) or infinite (open) indicates a bad sensor.
- Check for moisture intrusion: If the sensor is in a humid area, ensure no water has entered the connector. Dry thoroughly if needed.
- Replace NTC if faulty: Remove mounting screw or clip, install the new sensor, and reconnect wiring.
- Control board check: If a known-good sensor still triggers E05, the control board's sensor input circuit may be defective and require professional diagnosis or replacement.
