Possible Causes

Blocked airflow at lint filter or condenser, Failed or stuck heater relay, Shorted heater element, Faulty high-limit thermostat

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Immediate action: If you smell burning, stop the dryer, unplug it, and do not use it until inspected.

  • Clean all filters: Remove and clean the lint filter and condenser (if applicable). Ensure all air passages are free of lint.
  • Inspect heater area: Remove the rear panel to access the heater housing. Look for signs of scorching, melted wiring, or lint buildup on the heater.
  • Test high-limit thermostat: With a multimeter, check continuity of the high-limit thermostat. If it is open and non-resettable, replace it and investigate the cause of overheating.
  • Check heater element: Measure resistance of the heater. If it is shorted to ground or shows abnormal resistance, replace the heater assembly.
  • Control relay check: If the heater remains energized when it should be off, the control board heater relay may be welded closed. Replace the main control board.
  • After repair: Reassemble, restore power, and run a short test cycle while monitoring for abnormal heat or smells.
