GE Profile dryer displays E15 and may not start or may shut off when the door is closed or opened.

Safety first: Unplug the dryer.

Step-by-step checks:

• Door alignment: Check that the door closes evenly and the latch engages fully. Adjust hinges or replace the door strike if worn.
• Door switch test: Access the door switch behind the front panel. Wiggle the switch and harness while checking for any looseness.
• Continuity while moving: With a multimeter connected to the switch, press and release the actuator while gently moving the switch. Any intermittent readings indicate a failing switch.
• Replace switch: Install a new OEM GE Profile door switch if intermittent or open.
• Control board: If the switch is solid and wiring is intact, the main control board may be misreading the door signal and may need replacement.

Tip: A door that has to be slammed to start the dryer almost always indicates a door switch or latch issue.
