Possible Causes
Clogged exhaust vent, Failed outlet thermistor, Lint buildup in blower housing, Stuck heater relay on main control board
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the dryer and allow it to cool completely.
Step-by-step checks:
- Vent inspection: Disconnect the vent hose from the back of the dryer. Check for heavy lint buildup, crushed sections, or long runs with multiple elbows. Clean or replace as needed.
- Test airflow: Run the dryer briefly (with vent disconnected) and feel for strong airflow at the exhaust. If airflow is weak, inspect the blower wheel and internal ducts for lint clogs.
- Check outlet thermistor: Test the outlet thermistor on the exhaust duct for proper resistance at room temperature. Replace if out of spec.
- Control board relay: If the dryer overheats even with good airflow and sensors, the heater relay on the main control board may be stuck closed and the board should be replaced.
Warning: Operating with a restricted vent can cause fires. Always correct vent issues before continued use.
