Possible Causes

Failed drive motor, Broken or jammed blower wheel, Seized drum or drum support rollers, Faulty motor relay on main control board

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Unplug the dryer. Do not attempt to force the drum to turn while powered.

Step-by-step checks:

  • Check drum movement: Open the door and try to rotate the drum by hand. It should turn smoothly with moderate resistance. If it is very stiff or locked, suspect drum rollers, idler pulley, or foreign object jam.
  • Access the drive system: Remove the top panel and front panel (on most GE Profile front-load dryers) to expose the belt and drum. Remove the belt from the motor pulley and idler.
  • Isolate the motor: With the belt removed, spin the motor shaft by hand. It should turn freely. If it is stiff, noisy, or locked, the drive motor is likely bad.
  • Inspect blower wheel: Check the blower wheel attached to the motor shaft for obstructions (lint, socks, debris) and for cracks or looseness on the shaft.
  • Electrical tests: With the dryer unplugged, test the motor windings for continuity per the tech sheet. If open or shorted, replace the motor.
  • Control board: If the motor and mechanical parts are good, the main control board may not be sending proper voltage to the motor and may need replacement.

Note: Motor replacement requires significant disassembly; label wires and take photos as you go.
