Possible Causes
Defective door switch, Misaligned door strike, Broken door latch, Damaged door switch wiring harness
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the dryer before working around the door switch wiring.
Step-by-step checks:
- Door closure: Ensure the door closes fully and latches firmly. Check the door strike on the door and the latch on the cabinet for damage or misalignment.
- Test door switch: Locate the door switch behind the front panel near the door opening. With the dryer unplugged, remove the front panel or top as needed to access it.
- Continuity test: Disconnect the switch wires and test the switch with a multimeter. When the button is pressed (door closed), the switch should show continuity; when released, it should be open.
- Replace if faulty: If the switch does not change state correctly, replace it with an OEM GE Profile door switch.
- Inspect wiring: Check the harness from the door switch to the main control board for pinched or broken wires and repair as needed.
Tip: A misaligned door can sometimes be corrected by gently adjusting the door hinges or strike.
