How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Unplug the dryer or turn off the breaker. For gas dryers, shut off gas supply.

Check heating circuit:

For electric models: Access the heater housing from the rear. Disconnect the heating element leads and test the element for continuity. Replace the heating element if open.
Inspect high-limit thermostat and thermal cutoff on the heater housing; test for continuity and replace any open devices.
For gas models: Access the burner assembly. Inspect and test the gas valve coils for proper resistance (refer to tech sheet). Replace coils if out of spec.
Inspect wiring from the heater or burner assembly back to the main control board for burns, shorts, or loose connections.
If all components test good, the heater relay on the main control board may be stuck or open; replace the main control board.

Note: If you smell gas or are not comfortable working with gas components, contact a qualified technician.

GE dryer displays E8 and may not heat or may shut down shortly after starting.
