Possible Causes
Broken or slipped drive belt, Seized idler pulley, Worn drum rollers causing overload, Weak drive motor
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the dryer and shut off gas (if applicable).
Inspect belt and drum support:
- Open the dryer door and try to spin the drum by hand. If it spins freely and quietly, the belt may be broken.
- Remove the front panel to access the drum and belt.
- If the belt is broken or off the motor pulley, replace the belt and inspect the idler pulley for smooth rotation.
- Spin drum rollers by hand; replace any that are noisy or seized.
Check motor:
- If the belt and supports are good but the motor only hums, the motor may be failing or jammed with lint.
- Clear any obstructions and retest; if still humming, replace the drive motor.
