Possible Causes
Failed drive motor, Seized drum rollers or idler pulley, Broken or jammed blower wheel, Faulty motor capacitor (on some Haier models)
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the dryer before removing panels. Moving parts can cause injury.
- Check drum movement: With the dryer off, open the door and try to rotate the drum by hand. It should turn smoothly with moderate resistance. If it is very hard to turn or feels stuck, internal components may be seized.
- Listen for motor hum: Try to start the dryer (briefly) before unplugging. If you hear a humming sound but the drum does not turn, the motor is trying to start but is stalled, often due to a seized roller, idler, or blower wheel.
- Inspect belt and idler: Remove the top and front panel to access the drum. Check that the drive belt is intact and properly routed over the idler pulley and motor pulley. Spin the idler pulley by hand; it should move freely without grinding.
- Check drum rollers: Rotate each drum roller by hand. Replace any that are stiff, noisy, or have flat spots.
- Inspect blower wheel: Access the blower housing from the rear or front (model dependent). Ensure the blower wheel is not clogged with lint or foreign objects and that it is firmly attached to the motor shaft.
- Test motor and capacitor: If mechanical parts move freely, the motor or its start capacitor may be defective. Use a multimeter to check the capacitor (if fitted) and motor windings. Replace the drive motor assembly or capacitor as needed.
