Possible Causes

Open heating element, Blown thermal fuse, Failed high-limit thermostat, Loose or burnt heater wiring connector

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Disconnect power. Heating components can remain hot after use; allow time to cool.

  • Confirm no heat: Run the dryer on a high heat cycle for 5–10 minutes and check if the drum is warm (do this before unplugging). If it stays cold and E4 appears, proceed with checks.
  • Access rear panel: Unplug the dryer and remove the rear panel to access the heater housing and thermostats.
  • Inspect wiring: Look for burnt connectors or loose wires at the heating element terminals, thermal fuse, and thermostats. Repair or replace any damaged connectors.
  • Test thermal fuse: Locate the thermal fuse on or near the exhaust duct. Use a multimeter in continuity mode; a good fuse shows continuity. If open, replace it and also check for blocked vents that may have caused overheating.
  • Test high-limit thermostat: Check continuity across the high-limit thermostat. Replace if open at room temperature.
  • Test heating element: Disconnect the element leads and measure resistance across the terminals. An open circuit indicates a failed element. Replace the heater assembly if defective.
  • Reassemble and test: After replacing any faulty parts, reassemble the dryer, ensure proper venting, and test a heating cycle.
