Possible Causes
Failed drum/exhaust NTC thermistor, Loose thermistor connector, Damaged thermistor wiring harness, Faulty main control board sensor circuit
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the dryer before accessing internal components.
- Reset power: Disconnect power for 5 minutes, then reconnect and try a cycle. If E5 returns, continue troubleshooting.
- Locate thermistor: On most Haier dryers, the NTC thermistor is mounted on the exhaust duct or near the heater housing. Remove the rear panel to access it.
- Check connections: Inspect the thermistor plug and wiring for corrosion, loose fit, or damage. Reseat the connector firmly.
- Measure resistance: Disconnect the thermistor and measure its resistance at room temperature with a multimeter. Compare to the specification in the service manual (commonly around 10–50 kΩ at 25°C, but verify for your model). If the reading is open, shorted, or far out of range, replace the thermistor.
- Inspect harness to control board: Trace the wiring from the thermistor to the main control board. Look for pinched or broken wires. Repair as needed.
- Control board check: If a known-good thermistor and wiring are present but E5 persists, the control board's sensor circuit may be defective and require replacement.
