Possible Causes

Blocked lint filter, Blocked condenser unit, Blocked exhaust duct (vented models), Faulty high-limit thermostat

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Turn off and unplug the dryer immediately if you smell burning. Allow it to cool for at least 30 minutes before working on it.

  • Clean lint filter: Remove the lint filter from the door opening. Clean all lint with your fingers or a soft brush. Wash with warm water and dry if clogged with fabric softener residue.
  • Clean condenser (condenser and heat pump models): Open the lower front flap, remove the condenser unit, and rinse thoroughly under running water from both sides. Let it drain and dry before reinstalling.
  • Check exhaust duct (vented models): Inspect the flexible hose and wall vent for lint buildup, kinks, or crushed sections. Clean or replace as needed to restore airflow.
  • Inspect thermostats: Access the rear panel and locate the high-limit thermostat on the heater housing. Test for continuity. If open and not resettable, replace it. Do not bypass safety thermostats.

After cleaning and replacing any faulty thermostat, reset the dryer and run a short cycle. Persistent E04 indicates a deeper control or sensor issue requiring professional diagnosis.
