Possible Causes
Failed drive motor, Open motor thermal protector, Loose motor wiring connector, Faulty motor capacitor (if equipped)
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Disconnect the dryer from power before removing any panels. The motor and capacitor can store energy.
- Check for drum obstruction: Open the door and try to rotate the drum by hand. It should turn smoothly with moderate resistance. If jammed, remove foreign objects (coins, buttons, fabric caught between drum and front felt).
- Listen for motor hum: When E02 appears, if you previously heard a humming noise but no rotation, the motor may be seized or the capacitor faulty.
- Access the motor: Remove the rear or side panel (model dependent). Locate the drive motor at the base of the unit. Inspect the belt for breakage or tangling around the motor pulley.
- Check wiring and connectors: Ensure the motor plug is fully seated on the motor terminals and on the main PCB. Look for burnt connectors.
- Test motor windings: With a multimeter, measure resistance across the motor terminals according to the service manual values. Infinite or zero ohms indicates a bad motor.
- Inspect / test capacitor (if present): Discharge the capacitor safely, then test with a capacitance meter. Replace if out of specification.
- If the motor or capacitor is defective, replace the faulty component. If wiring and components test good but E02 persists, the main control board may be defective and should be diagnosed by a technician.
