Possible Causes
Blocked lint filter, Blocked condenser unit or heat exchanger, Blocked or crushed exhaust duct (vented models), Faulty cycling thermostat or NTC sensor
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the dryer and allow it to cool completely before working on it. Overheating can cause burns and fire risk.
- Clean the lint filter: Remove the main lint filter from the door opening. Clean off all lint with your fingers or a soft brush. Wash with warm soapy water if clogged with residue, then dry fully before refitting.
- Clean the condenser/heat exchanger: On condenser and heat pump models, open the lower front flap and remove the condenser unit. Rinse thoroughly under running water from the rear to the front until water runs clear. Allow to drain and refit correctly.
- Check air vents and ducting: For vented Hoover dryers, inspect the rear vent hose and external vent flap. Remove lint build-up, straighten kinks, and ensure the external flap opens freely.
- Inspect air intake grilles: Vacuum any dust from intake grilles and around the fan area (without disassembling the sealed fan housing).
- Reset thermal cut-out (if manual reset type): Some Hoover dryers have a manual reset thermostat on the heater housing. With the back panel removed (power off), locate the small thermostat with a red or recessed button and press gently to reset. If it trips repeatedly, there is an underlying airflow or control issue that must be fixed.
- Test NTC sensor and thermostats: If you have a multimeter, check the NTC sensor and thermostats for correct resistance/continuity according to service data. Replace faulty components.
