Possible Causes

Open-circuit NTC sensor on heater or drum, Shorted NTC sensor, Damaged wiring harness between NTC and control board, Faulty main control PCB temperature input

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Disconnect the appliance from mains before removing the rear panel or heater cover.

  • Locate the NTC sensor: On Hoover dryers, the NTC is typically mounted on the heater housing or air duct. Remove the rear panel to access it.
  • Check connections: Ensure the NTC plug is firmly connected and free from corrosion or burning. Reseat the connector.
  • Test the NTC: Using a multimeter set to kilo-ohms, measure resistance across the NTC terminals at room temperature. Typical values are between 5–20 kΩ (check service manual for exact spec). If it reads open (infinite) or near 0 Ω, replace the NTC.
  • Inspect wiring: Follow the cable from the NTC to the control board. Look for chafed insulation, broken conductors, or burnt connectors. Repair or replace as needed.
  • Control board check: If a known-good NTC and wiring are present but E05 persists, the main control PCB may be defective and should be tested or replaced by a qualified technician.
