Possible Causes

Blocked fan housing with lint, Seized or weak fan motor, Broken fan impeller, Faulty fan motor capacitor (if fitted)

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Unplug the dryer. Sharp metal edges and moving parts can cause injury.

  • Clean lint paths: Remove the rear panel and inspect the fan housing and ducts. Vacuum out lint and debris thoroughly.
  • Check fan impeller: Ensure the plastic or metal fan wheel is firmly attached to the motor shaft and not cracked. Replace if damaged.
  • Spin test: Rotate the fan by hand. It should turn freely without grinding. If stiff, the motor bearings may be failing.
  • Motor and capacitor: On some Hoover dryers, the fan motor has a start/run capacitor. If the fan hums but does not start, the capacitor may be faulty and should be replaced with the correct rating.
  • Professional testing: If E12 persists after cleaning and mechanical checks, a technician should test the fan motor windings and control outputs.
