Possible Causes
Drive belt snapped, Belt slipped off motor pulley or idler, Worn idler pulley causing belt misalignment, Drum support issues increasing belt load
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the dryer before removing the top or front panel.
- Check drum rotation: Open the door and try to rotate the drum by hand. If it spins freely with no resistance, the belt is likely broken or off.
- Inspect belt: Remove the top cover and front panel to view the belt around the drum. If broken or off the pulleys, remove the old belt.
- Check pulleys: Inspect the motor pulley and idler pulley for wear or damage. Replace a noisy or seized idler pulley.
- Fit new belt: Install a new Hotpoint-Ariston specified belt around the drum, routing it correctly around the motor and idler pulleys according to the service diagram.
- Test run: Reassemble the cabinet and run a short cycle to confirm smooth drum rotation.
