Possible Causes
Faulty ambient NTC sensor, Loose sensor connector, Damaged wiring harness to sensor, Sensor out of calibration due to heat damage
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the dryer before removing covers.
- Locate ambient sensor: On many Hotpoint-Ariston dryers, a secondary NTC is located near the air intake or on the front bulkhead to sense room or inlet temperature.
- Inspect sensor and wiring: Check for physical damage, corrosion, or loose connectors. Reseat the plug firmly.
- Measure resistance: With the sensor disconnected, measure its resistance at room temperature and compare with service data. Replace if open, shorted, or significantly out of range.
- Check harness continuity: If the sensor is good, test the wiring back to the control board for continuity and shorts.
