Possible Causes
Incorrect heater wiring after previous repair, Faulty cycling thermostat, Open secondary heater element (dual‑circuit heaters), Control board heater drive fault
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Disconnect mains power before testing or rewiring any heater components.
Steps to check:
- Verify wiring: Compare heater and thermostat wiring to a wiring diagram (often inside the rear panel or service manual). Correct any mis‑wired connections.
- Test thermostats: With the dryer cool, check continuity across the cycling thermostat(s) on the heater housing. They should be closed (low resistance). Replace any that are open when cold.
- Check dual‑circuit heaters: Some Hotpoint heaters have two separate coils. Test resistance across each pair of terminals. An open circuit on one coil can cause F08.
- Inspect PCB: If all heater components test good, the control board may not be switching the heater correctly and may require replacement.
