Possible Causes
Faulty motor tachometer coil, Broken tachometer wiring to PCB, Loose motor connector, Failed tachometer input on control board
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the dryer before accessing the motor or underside.
Steps to check:
- Access motor: Remove the rear panel and, if necessary, the side panel to reach the motor. Locate the small tachometer coil or sensor on the motor shaft.
- Inspect wiring: Check the small gauge wires from the tachometer to the main harness for breaks or loose connectors. Reseat connectors.
- Test tachometer: With a multimeter set to resistance, measure across the tachometer terminals. Typical values are a few hundred ohms. An open circuit indicates a failed tach coil.
- Spin test: While slowly spinning the motor shaft by hand, measure AC voltage across the tach terminals (with the dryer unplugged, use a low‑voltage continuity tester if available). A small varying voltage should be generated; if not, the tach is faulty.
If the tachometer and wiring are good, the main control board may not be reading the signal correctly and may require replacement.
