Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the dryer. Wear gloves and eye protection when working around moving parts.
- Isolate the noise: Run the dryer briefly (with panels on) to identify if the noise changes with drum speed. Stop and unplug before opening.
- Inspect drum supports: Remove the front panel and drum to access the support rollers and rear bearing. Spin each roller by hand; they should turn smoothly and quietly.
- Replace worn components: If rollers are flat-spotted, noisy, or seized, replace them as a set. Lubricate only if specified by the manufacturer (many are self-lubricating and should not be oiled).
- Check idler pulley: Spin the idler pulley; replace if noisy or rough.
After replacing worn parts, reassemble and test. Persistent grinding may indicate a damaged drum glide or felt seal that also needs replacement.
