Possible Causes

Open heating element, Blown thermal fuse or safety thermostat, Loose heater wiring, Faulty heater relay on main control board

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Disconnect power. Heating components can retain heat; allow time to cool.

  • Check basic airflow: Clean the lint filter and condenser/heat exchanger (if applicable). Poor airflow can cause overheating and blow safety devices.
  • Access the heater assembly: On many Ikea dryers, the heater is located at the rear or in a side duct. Remove the rear panel to expose the heater housing.
  • Inspect wiring: Look for burnt connectors or loose spade terminals on the heater, thermostats, and thermal fuse. Repair or replace damaged connectors.
  • Test the heating element: Disconnect the heater terminals and measure resistance with a multimeter. A typical element reads 10–40 Ω. If it is open (infinite resistance), replace the heater assembly.
  • Check thermal fuse and thermostats: Locate the thermal fuse and high-limit thermostats on the heater housing or exhaust duct. Test for continuity. Any open device must be replaced; do not bypass permanently.

After replacing failed components, reassemble, restore power, and run a warm cycle while monitoring for normal heating. If E04 returns and all components test good, the main control board or heater relay may be defective and require professional service.
