Possible Causes

Failed drive motor, Seized drum or drum bearings, Broken or jammed belt, Faulty motor capacitor (on some models)

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Unplug the dryer. Moving parts can cause injury; keep hands clear when testing with power.

  • Check drum movement: Open the door and try to rotate the drum by hand. It should turn smoothly with moderate resistance. If it is very stiff or grinding, the drum bearings, rear support, or felt seals may be seized.
  • Listen for motor hum: If the dryer hums but the drum does not turn, the motor may be stalled or the belt may be broken.
  • Inspect the belt: Remove the top panel and front panel (if necessary) to view the belt around the drum and motor pulley. If the belt is broken or off the pulley, replace and correctly route it around the idler pulley and motor.
  • Check the motor and capacitor: With power disconnected, inspect the motor for burnt smell or visible damage. On models with a start capacitor, test the capacitor with a capacitance meter; replace if out of spec. Spin the motor shaft by hand; it should turn freely.

If the belt and drum move freely but E05 persists and the motor does not run, the drive motor or main control board may need replacement. This is typically a more advanced repair.
