Possible Causes
Faulty ambient temperature sensor, Sensor wiring harness damage, Control board input fault, Dryer installed in extreme temperature environment
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the dryer before accessing sensors or control boards.
- Check installation environment: Ensure the dryer is not installed in a very cold or very hot room (e.g., unheated garage in winter). Extreme temperatures can trigger sensor errors.
- Locate ambient sensor: On many Ikea dryers, the ambient NTC is near the air intake or on the control board housing. Inspect for damage and ensure it is not covered by insulation or lint.
- Inspect wiring: Follow the sensor wires to the main control board. Reseat connectors and check for pin damage.
- Test sensor: Measure resistance at room temperature and compare to service data if available. Replace if open or shorted.
If E12 persists with a known-good sensor, the main control board may be defective and require replacement.
