Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the dryer and allow it to cool fully. Heating components can remain hot.
Check heater circuit:
- Access heater assembly: Remove the rear panel to expose the heater housing. Identify the heating element terminals and thermostats (cut-outs).
- Test heating element: Disconnect the element wires and measure resistance across the element. An open circuit indicates a failed element that must be replaced.
- Check thermostats: Test each thermostat/thermal cut-out for continuity. Any open thermostat (at room temperature) should be replaced. If a one-shot safety thermostat has tripped, investigate airflow issues before replacing.
- Inspect wiring: Look for burnt connectors or discoloured wires between the heater and PCB. Repair or replace as needed.
Control board relay: If the heater and thermostats are good, the heater relay on the main PCB may be stuck or burnt. Replace the main control board if relay damage is visible or confirmed by testing.
