Possible Causes
Vent duct leaking condensation, Vent hood flap stuck closed, Long uninsulated vent in cold space, Blocked vent causing moisture backup
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the dryer before moving it or disconnecting the vent.
- Inspect the vent path: Pull the dryer away from the wall and check the vent hose and connections for gaps or loose joints where moist air could escape and condense.
- Check exterior vent hood: Ensure the hood flap opens freely and is not blocked by lint, paint, or nests. Clean as needed.
- Shorten and insulate vent: If the vent runs through a cold area (attic, crawlspace), insulate the duct to reduce condensation. Keep the run as short and straight as possible.
- Seal joints: Use foil tape (not duct tape) to seal vent joints and prevent moist air leaks.
