Possible Causes
Shorted exhaust thermistor, Thermistor wires shorted together, Moisture or condensation in thermistor connector, Failed main control interpreting sensor
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the dryer before testing or replacing sensors.
- Access the thermistor: Remove the rear panel to reach the exhaust thermistor on the blower housing or exhaust duct.
- Inspect for moisture or damage: Check the thermistor and connector for signs of moisture, corrosion, or melted insulation. Dry any moisture and clean corrosion.
- Test resistance: Disconnect the thermistor and measure resistance at room temperature. A reading near 0 ohms indicates a shorted sensor. Also check for continuity between the two harness wires with the thermistor removed; there should be no short.
- Repair wiring if shorted: If the harness is shorted, cut out damaged sections and splice in new wire using high-temperature-rated connectors.
- Replace the thermistor if shorted: Install a new exhaust thermistor, secure it to the housing, reconnect the harness, reassemble the dryer, and run a test cycle to confirm normal operation.
